Winter playtime

As I write this, the weather bureau are forecasting a 17C day today....and 20C tomorrow. Doesn't sound much like winter, does it? But on Tuesday, it was - at least for Dave and I who headed up to Mt Buller for a spot of exercise in the form of skiing. Upon arriving in the carpark, the sun was shining, the snow was glistening and it looked like a beautiful day for skiing.

We hit the slopes and very quickly found our feet, or should that be, skis! Before long, we were whizzing down the runs and Dave started the entertainment with some good falls.

The wind started to pick up on the northern slopes (as forecast but not such a bad thing - it must have kept a lot more peope away - at times, we had runs to ourselves!) so we crossed the summit and tackled the southern slopes, which were out of the wind, the sun was still shining and you could see the scenery - complete with bushfire damage from last summer.

The snow was lovely and we tackled many runs, before the body started to tire. We headed back to the car for lunch - in our money saving campaign for this year (Dave and Mairead are expecting a baby in 6 weeks and Greg and I have a wedding to save for), Dave and I had brought out lunch. Hot potato and leek soup, ham/cheese/tomato sandwiches toasted fresh on the burner, coffee and Anzac biscuits - who needs fancy ski restaurants!

Oh yes, and all washed down with beer! After re-energising, we hit the slopes again. Dodging the wind meant we headed back to the southern slopes until the last lift. It was a brilliant day, and the weather was far better than I had pessimistically expected (after reading the forecast!). A few sore muscles and a good night's sleep later, and we're back to work...our snow play over!
