The new Mr and Mrs Mallett!

Another Mallett boy has made the marriage committment to his lovely girl! Saturday 17th March saw the beautiful wedding of Ruth and Doug unfold from 4:30pm in Launceston. The church service was held in the Church of the Apostles, and was a relatively short Catholic service. All details were lovely - from the intricate carvings and glass windows of the church, to the different coloured dresses of the bridesmaids, to the full dress uniforms of the military boys - to the bride herself!

The boys before the service - groom on the right hand side looking anything but nervous!

The new Mr and Mrs Mallett

While the bridal couple went and had photos taken in City Park, the rest of us went to various drinking establishments around Launceston for a drink. Eleanor and I managed to drink an entire bottle of champagne before the reception!

The reception was held at the old Post Office in Launceston, a beautiful old building with ornate ceiling and sunken floor. With goldfish swimming in vases as table decorations, and methuselahs of Penfolds wine as edible (or drinkable!) table decoration, the night was spent eating, drinking, dancing and chasing fish! At 12:30 the bride and groom left, we packed up the fish and caught a few hours sleep before getting ready for the aftermath BBQ!

On the Sunday, Marg hosted a BBQ at her home for those wedding guests who wanted to spend some more casual time with the bridal couple. We wanted Marg to enjoy it too and mingle with the new in-laws so we were kept busy with food and other necessary preparations. Everyone else had a nice time, relaxing in the Tasmanian sun on a very pleasant and warm afternoon. Let's just say our beer at the end of the day was very well deserved!

Thankfully, Monday was our relaxing day of the long weekend. Together with Marg, we made a foodie tour of Tassie with a road trip to the Belgian chocolate factory, Ashgrove cheeses, the Raspberry farm and then a Salmon farm. All very enjoyable.

So, the next Mallett wedding will be ours!!!!

Long summer weekend

Back to the real world after a lazy long weekend on the banks of Murray River in the Barmah State Forest with friends. It was hot, so we all spent time in the water - in the boat, in the donut, or even swimming for those of us who are training for an Ironman. We ate, we drank - and we didn't do much else. How much more relaxing can you get?!

Friday night Greg and I headed up, and after a little detour, didn't make it until after dark so we set up the tent and got a campfire going by the light of the stars! (oh, and car headlights!). But it was very relaxing to wake up in the morning to the peace and quiet of the bush. So we finished setting up, cooked breakfast and put the percolator on for our friends when they were due to arrive. Finally the green Subaru appeared through the bush and from a very crammed car emerged Dave and Al, Mairead and Emily. Their tents were set up and the first beer cracked open - ahh, it was going to be a good weekend!

There followed lots more food, beer and wine, swimming and fun, not to forget toasting marshmallows by the campfire. It was a great weekend and we thank our friends for making it so enjoyable.

Here's a couple of photos!

Our boat cruising up the river - this time with no donut on the back but that was a lot of fun up and down this stretch of the river!

Dave fishing for Tracey's valuable water bucket.....the river was down a lot this year (last year, it would have been at the tree roots just below Dave's feet, down at least one metre this year), so Dave rigged up a rope pulley for the bucket to get water out of the river. Until the rope came away from the bucket while the bucket was in the river.....I wasn't so much worried about the loss of my 89 cent bucket but I didn't think we needed to pollute the Murray any more, so I sent Dave fishing - he caught it!

I was having a peaceful, warm shower to wash my hair....until these cows just wandered into our campsite! I'm sure they weren't coming to check me out, so maybe they wanted to have a beer with the boys.....
