Long summer weekend
Back to the real world after a lazy long weekend on the banks of Murray River in the Barmah State Forest with friends. It was hot, so we all spent time in the water - in the boat, in the donut, or even swimming for those of us who are training for an Ironman. We ate, we drank - and we didn't do much else. How much more relaxing can you get?!Friday night Greg and I headed up, and after a little detour, didn't make it until after dark so we set up the tent and got a campfire going by the light of the stars! (oh, and car headlights!). But it was very relaxing to wake up in the morning to the peace and quiet of the bush. So we finished setting up, cooked breakfast and put the percolator on for our friends when they were due to arrive. Finally the green Subaru appeared through the bush and from a very crammed car emerged Dave and Al, Mairead and Emily. Their tents were set up and the first beer cracked open - ahh, it was going to be a good weekend!
There followed lots more food, beer and wine, swimming and fun, not to forget toasting marshmallows by the campfire. It was a great weekend and we thank our friends for making it so enjoyable.
Here's a couple of photos!
Our boat cruising up the river - this time with no donut on the back but that was a lot of fun up and down this stretch of the river!
Dave fishing for Tracey's valuable water bucket.....the river was down a lot this year (last year, it would have been at the tree roots just below Dave's feet, down at least one metre this year), so Dave rigged up a rope pulley for the bucket to get water out of the river. Until the rope came away from the bucket while the bucket was in the river.....I wasn't so much worried about the loss of my 89 cent bucket but I didn't think we needed to pollute the Murray any more, so I sent Dave fishing - he caught it!
I was having a peaceful, warm shower to wash my hair....until these cows just wandered into our campsite! I'm sure they weren't coming to check me out, so maybe they wanted to have a beer with the boys.....
