Day 22 - Katherine to Darwin

As we sit here in the warm evening air of this very busy caravan park in Darwin, we are all wondering what to write on our respective blogs as really, all we did today was drive from Katherine to Darwin! Which isn't even that far (313km).

Our morning started in the usual fashion of coffee under the awning. I then had a shower and became concerned when the water didn't drain. So Paul and I crawled under the van (which was filthy, and unfortunately, Paul was wearing a white T shirt) and unscrewed a few things and tried a few things but couldn't see a problem and when Greg had his shower, it was fine. Very odd, but as Paul says, the caravan repair man is coming on Monday morning.....

So we packed up and were on the road before 10am. We amused each other on the way with UHF radio tranmissions about important activities such as toilet stops and the ubiquitous "are we there yet?" We arrived in Adelaide River at about lunch time so after refueling vehicles, we pulled into a lovely grassy area and had ourselves a picnic lunch. Interestingly, near our lunch table was a memorial to a police officer killed in action in 2000 (who was the OIC for the Adelaide River Police Station). One book Greg and I listened to recently was about the original crocodile dundee, who went mad on drugs and died in a shoot out with police at Humpty Doo in 2000 - and this was the police officer he shot at the same time. Very tragic.

We arrived into our caravan park at about 3pm and after check in, went about the rigmorale of setting up. This was my first time of backing into a site perpendicular to the road but Paul guided me and I put into practice my learnings from the towing course and we ended up beautifully located. The heat then hit us as we set up so it was quickly beer o'clock. Lisa baked delicious pizzas for dinner (the joy of having an oven in your caravan - we don't!) before Greg and I had the joy of seeing again dear Natalie, and her partner Hayden. Natalie and I were known as the dynamic duo (translated - terrible two) in the fire brigade for many years as we had a terrible habit of one of us being injured when we were together. So we made some plans to catch up with them during our time here before Natalie headed off to work. And we have the joy of not having to move the van for a whole five nights!
